Champion Gymnastics Qualifies athletes to both the National & Eastern Championships
LOUISVILLE, KY, April 19th — Louisville is proud to send 2 gymnasts to the USA Gymnastics National Championships and 1 athlete to the USA Gymnastics Eastern Championships as the only gymnasts from Louisville KY, to compete against the very best gymnasts in the country.
These 3 Champion Gymnastics’ gymnasts qualified at the Level 9 & 10 Region 5 Championships held in Fort Wayne, IN April 13th-16th. Retoshia Halsell, a senior at Ballard High School (3-time Level 10 National Qualifier) placed 1st at this year’s Region 5 Championships on Floor and 2nd in both Vault and the All-Around. Emily Turner qualified to her first Level 10 National Championships, also a classmate of Retoshia at Ballard, as the 1st alternate after a solid day of competition. Addie Leitterman a sophomore at South Oldham High School, qualified to her 2nd Level 9 Eastern Championships despite a fall on floor as she climbed her way back to be the Level 9 Region 5 All Around Champion.
While Champion, has a long history of qualifying athletes for decades to both of these championships, they are the only club in KY that has maintained a streak of a national or eastern qualifiers since 2014. Past National Qualifiers have gone on to compete at universities around the country as this amazing accomplishment for our athletes is one of the most important milestones in achieving their goal towards collegiate gymnastics. In Fact Emily Turner will go on compete this fall on a D2 gymnastics/academic scholarship for the University of Bridgeport & Retoshia Halsell will compete for Towson University on a Full D1 Scholarship. Impressively, the 2023-2024 NCAA season will feature 5 Champion Gymnastics alums competing on gymnastics scholarships!
