Champion Gymnasts Qualifies athletes to both National Championships and Eastern Championships for both Men and Women

LOUISVILLE, KY, April 17th — Louisville is proud to send 1 athlete to the USA Gymnastics National Championships and 4 athletes to the USA Gymnastics Eastern Championships as the only gymnasts from Louisville KY, to compete against the very best gymnasts in the country.

On our Woman’s Team; who competed at the Level 9 and 10 Region 5 Championships in Dayton, Ohio. Emily Johnson, a sophomore at Ballard High School, qualified for her 1st Nationals on vault after falling on floor in the previous rotation. Reese Owen, a sophomore at Assumption High School, qualified to her 1st Level 9 Eastern Championship despite her fall on beam which led her climb her way up placing 3rd on floor and 5th in the All-Around. MaryLou Ogbe, a Freshman at DuPont Manual High School, qualified to her 1st Level 9 Eastern Championship after a solid day of competition placing 2nd in both bars and the all-around.

On our Men’s team; who competed at the Region 5 Championships in Champaign IL. Level 7 Keagan Jackson, an 8th Grader at Woodford County Middle School, qualified for his first Eastern Nationals in the All-Around competition. His teammate Level 7 Teddy Harrell, an 8th Grader at The Village School of Louisville, qualified for his first Eastern Nationals as an event specialist for Vault (which he was 20th in the Region on this event), as well as on Parallel Bars.

Champion has the longest history of any club on the state of Kentucky having qualified athletes consistently to both of these championships for decades.  National Qualifiers have gone on to compete at universities around the country as this amazing accomplishment is one of the most important milestones in achieving their goal towards collegiate gymnastics.
